Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw expressed gratitude for the collective effort that enabled the operation of more than 16,000 trains during the Mahakumbh 2025. Speaking at Prayagraj Junction on Thursday, Vaishnaw credited the cooperation between various stakeholders, including the Railway Ministry, state police, RPF, Rapid Action Force, and other departments, for ensuring the smooth transportation of 4 to 5 crore devotees to the Triveni Sangam.
“We had originally planned for 13,000 trains, but thanks to everyone’s coordination, we managed to operate over 16,000 trains,” said Vaishnaw. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for their leadership in organizing the grand event.
Vaishnaw also emphasized the importance of considering the devotees’ faith while managing such a massive gathering, ensuring that devotees faced no issues during the 45-day event. He highlighted the holding areas, war rooms at every station, and close coordination among different agencies as key to handling the crowds, particularly during their return journey.
“We will analyze all the arrangements and incorporate the learnings into future events with similar large gatherings,” he added. The success of the Mahakumbh 2025 is being hailed as a remarkable achievement in the world of logistics and crowd management, with over 66 crore devotees participating in the holy dip.
The Mahakumbh officially concluded on February 26 on the occasion of Maha Shivratri, although devotees continue to visit Prayagraj’s Triveni Sangam for the sacred dip.
